Volkswagen is coming up with a pickup truck for the United States market . The German automaker will bring its Tarok pickup truck concept to the 2019 New York Auto Show this weekend. This compact of Tarok pickup was seen at the Sao Paolo International Motor Show at the end of 2018. Volkswagen has confirmed that the Tarok is destined for dealer showrooms—but those showrooms will be located in South America. This is the second year in a row that Volkswagen will bring a pickup truck concept to the New York Auto Show.
Based on the MQB platform, the Tarok concept is a compact pickup that is 193.5 inches long, yet has the ability to carry loads up to 73.2 inches long thanks to an innovative design that allows the pickup bed to extend into the cab. Four decades of design advancements and the MQB chassis allows the Tarok concept to have roughly double the payload capacity of the previous Volkswagen Pickup, at 2,200 lbs – which is also at least 1,200 lbs. more than the last compact pickup sold in America. With Volkswagen’s sharp, modern design, nine inches of ground clearance and 4Motion all-wheel-drive, the Tarok has the skills to match its looks when venturing off road.

The key to the Tarok concept’s versatility is a variable load area. The floor space can be enlarged not only by opening the tailgate, but also using a newly developed mechanism for folding down the bottom of the passenger cabin’s rear panel.
The interior features a fully digital design for the instruments and air conditioning control system, and matches the expressive exterior in terms of style as well as color. A glass-covered 9.2-inch Infotainment system and a configurable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit are the central elements within the color-keyed instrument panel. These two elements create a continuous digital and networked cockpit, designed to help make use of a maximum range of online services and apps. Another clever feature is a speaker in the center console that can be removed and connected to a compatible smartphone via Bluetooth.
The appearance of the Tarok concept at the 2019 New York Auto Show indicates that VW is leaning toward bringing a pickup truck to the U.S., but it’s hard to tell what kind of truck we might get.Volkswagen will also bring a second concept vehicle, the Atlas Basecamp, to New York.
